The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation has begun registration for Indoor Baseball. The program will be at the Central Middle School on Friday nights until March 5 and will be available to those who will be turning 7-10 years of age on or before April 30, 2010. The program will include both skill drills and game playing. The 7′s will be meeting at 5:45 p.m., the 8′s at 6:30 p.m., the 9′s at 7:30 p.m. and the 10′s meet from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. The Stags Baseball Staff will be working with the players. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that registration for Coed T-Ball will begin BY MAIL ONLY, Monday March 1. there are two separate T-Ball programs. Five-year-old T-Ball is for children that will turn age 5 by April 30, 2010. This program will use the T for hitting through out the program. Six-year-old T-Ball is for children who will turn 6 by April 30, 2010. This program will be a combination of coach pitch, and use of the T. Tryouts for the 2010 Connecticut Flame AAU Basketball Teams are set for Sat. March 6 and Sat. Stamford Youth Foundation is seeking qualified coaches for the upcoming lacrosse season. Practices will be held twice during the week and games will be on Saturdays. One additional practice day will be added to emphasize the fundamentals of the game for players (boys and girls) at the various ability levels and this will be determined at a later date. Experience at the high school, college and post college levels is a key component for the travel teams but anyone who wants to participate in the elementary or middle school programs, is welcome! The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that Indoor Field Hockey Clinics at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center will meet on four consecutive Sundays starting February 28th. The classes will meet on Sun. Feb. 28, March 7, 14, 21. Session I is for girls 8 to 10 years old, and will be from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The second session will be from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm for children 11 – 12 years old. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation has the Future Stars soccer clinics at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center. This program is underway on Wednesdays starting January 27 for eight weeks. The program is open to boys and girls ages 3 through 11 years old and proof of age will be required for anyone new to the program. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that registration has begun for its Girls Softball Program. The program is divided into 3 age groups. Juniors, is a coach pitch league, ages of the girls are 8 and 9, Intermediates are 10 and 11 years old, and Seniors are 12 to 15. Juniors will learn the fundamentals of softball with a focus on hitting, throwing, catching, and the rules of the game. Intermediates will continue to develop skills with emphasis on pitching, defensive play, base running strategy, sliding and rules of the game. Seniors will incorporate more strategy plays, individual position play, sliding and stealing. anyone new to the Senior Division will be required to attend an evaluation at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center on Sun. February 28 from 1-3 p.m. They should bring a glove and bat. Returning seniors need not attend. The program starts Sat. April 3 and runs through June 19. Girls must turn 8 by July 8, 2010 and not turn age 16 by that same cut off date. during the month of April teams will have both a weeknight and weekend practice. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that registration will begin for our summer Skatepark Ramp Camps starting March 1, 2010. The Ramp camp is for skateboarders between the ages of 8 and 14. during the camp time the skaters will learn new tricks, play games, and skate on this unique park. The skatepark has an experienced, fully trained staff that is friendly and helpful and can help your child learn how to skate, or improve his/her skills. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation has begun registration for our very popular Pilates Class at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 am starting March 23, 2010. Pilates is an exercise option for everyone. Designed to develop a strong core (stomach, back and glutes) while maintaining loose limber limbs the exercises provide multiple variations to meet the needs of different body types. it strengthens the body while keeping all the joints mobile and flexible. While it’s not a cardiovascular exercise, you’ll feel your muscles working. Bring a mat, work out clothes, and water. This is a mixed-level class so all are welcome to attend. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation announces that Tennis for Tots will begin indoors at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Mondays starting January 25th for six weeks. The program for children 3 and 4 years old will run from 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm, or 3:15 pm to 3:45 pm. The 5, 6 and 7 year old program will be from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm, or 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm, 6, 7, and 8 year olds class will be from 5:15 pm to 6 pm. The cost is $75 for the 3 & 4 yr olds, and $90 for the 5 – 8 yr old programs. Pat Cianciulli who has been the director of the Town’s Tennis Program for two years will teach the program. he also teaches at various private clubs in Greenwich, and has worked at the US Open. he has taken the latest workshops with the USPTR. WRESTLING HALL OF FAME DINNER

The Connecticut Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will hold an induction dinner on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Foxwoods Resort Casino to honor these men for their contribution to the sport of wrestling and our communities. The six men to be honored are: James Cunningham, former coach and athletic director at Holy Cross. Jim Day, former coach and current athletic director at Berlin High. Retired Lieutenant Col. Gralyn Harris, a former wrestler, current coach and graduate of Holy Cross. Walter “Buster” Jadach, current coach at Derby High. Ray Mainville, former coach at Maloney High and current official. Michael Morris, former coach at Danbury High and current official. Cunningham, Day, Mainville, Morris and Jadach will receive a Lifetime Achievement award for coaches, officials, media or contributors with at least 20 years of service. Harris is being honored as an Outstanding American, an award for former wrestlers who have received state or national acclaim in their chosen profession. Each award recipient will be permanently recognized in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Stillwater, Oklahoma) with an embossed name plaque, and each receives a plaque and jacket to commemorate the very special occasion. These six will join 23 other inductees from Connecticut in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
