College Loan Help
Reported By Al Ruechel
The site is called IBRInfo.org. It’s an independent, non-profit source of information about income-based repayment of college loans.
Unless you’re making a very good salary, the program can reduce your payments to no more than 10 percent of your total income. If you have children it can be reduced even further.
Under the “Help Me Link,” you can find out if you qualify based on the kind of loan you have. There’s even a link to a national database that keeps track of your lender in case you forgot or don’t know.
You’ll find links to the William Ford Direct Loan program and the Sallie Mae Program.
You can use the IBR calculator to plug in your numbers to see if you qualify.
And finally, if you are in public service, public safety, law enforcement, public health or even school-based services or work for a non-profit 501C3, you may be able to have your loan forgiven after 10 years of service
Not everyone who applies will be accepted. but the Department of Education says as many as 8-10 million graduates can benefit from income-based repayment.
